About the Australian Publishers Association (APA)

The APA is the peak national industry organisation for Australian book and electronic publishers representing 90% of the industry, based on turnover. Established in 1948, the association is an advocate for all Australian publishers: large or small; commercial or non-profit; academic or popular; locally or overseas owned.

As the trade body of publishers, we work together to protect and promote our common interests and to improve the environment in which publishers do business. We also initiate projects of benefit to wider industry such as this P&A service, publish the annual APA Members Directory and organise most major industry events including:

• the Book Industry Awards and Industry Dinner
• the Book Design Awards
• The Australian Awards for Excellence in Educational Publishing
• the Bestsellers Survey
• The Beatrice Davis Editorial Fellowship
• The John Curtain Fellowship
• professional development programs tailored to industry needs.
